MyQualia: Happiness Tracker

How can we help?

MyQualia stands out from other mood tracking apps by offering a more comprehensive and personalized approach to understanding your emotions. Unlike traditional apps that use simple mood ratings, MyQualia allows you to rate your emotions on a detailed scale, track specific activities, and assign numerical values to each experience. This gives you deeper insights into your emotional patterns over time. Additionally, MyQualia includes advanced filtering and data visualization tools, making it easier to uncover the factors that truly impact your well-being.

Qualia refer to individual instances of subjective, conscious experience. Life is one long string of different qualia, small and big. It’s the experiences we love and the moments we hate.

MyQualia is free to download and allows you to create as many entries as you wish without any fee. The free version includes features such as viewing charts and calendars to track your emotional trends over time.

Additionally, there is an optional premium subscription service available for $9.99 per month or $49.99 per year, sometimes available at a discount. This premium version offers enhanced features including advanced search filters, sophisticated data visualization methods like mood line graphs and pie charts, options for backing up your data with iCloud or Google Drive, and the ability to export your data as a CSV file.

Simply open the MyQualia App, press the “+” icon in the center of the bottom of the screen. Then input your Qualia points and click “next”. Tab on the activity for your entry and then press “Add details.”  Add the emotional tags you are feeling and the hobbies you were engaging in (if applicable). Now press “Add notes” to add any further details you wish. You can also add photos to your entries at this point if you like.

There you go! Your entry has now been saved.

Photos can be added when adding notes to your entry. When on the “Add notes” page, click on the camera on the lower left of the screen to take a new photo or use one from your gallery.

At the home page, press the gear icon labeled “settings.” Now press the bell icon labeled “Reminders.” You can now switch reminders on and off by toggling the switch.

If you are a premium subscriber, you can transfer your data by going to the home page and pressing the gear icon labeled “settings.” Once at the settings page, press the disk icon labeled “Your Data.”

You have three options to transfer your data:

  1. Pressing the “Backup to Google Drive” button allows you to store your data using that service. The “Automatic Backup” switch allows you to do this continuously.
  2. Pressing the “Export/Import” button in MyQualia allows you to download your data as a db file, which can be transferred to other devices using the MyQualia application. Pressing “Export” creates a new db file, while “Import” enables you to import other db files on your system. This feature supports data transfer between iOS and Android devices
  3. Pressing the “Export CSV” button allows you to download your data as a CSV file. Once downloaded, this file can be used by programs like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for further analysis of the data.

If you are a premium subscriber, you can access the advanced filters by pressing the metrics icon on the top right of the home page. This will bring you to a page that allows you to select the metrics you are filtering for in your search of previous entries. These include:

  1. A sliding scale of Qualia points that you can narrow to any range between -100 and +100. For example, you can choose to view entries scoring between 80 to 100 to scroll through your best moments.
  2. The activity types you want to include in your search. Multiple types can be selected for in a single search.
  3. Additional factors such as emotional states or hobbies. Multiple factors can be selected for in a single search.
  4. An option to search only for exact matches of the previous criteria. For instance, if you want to search only entries where you were with your family in nature and listened to music, you can select “Family,” “Nature,” “Music,” and choose “Show only exact matches.”
  5. An option to filter entries that include notes or photos

As you change the metrics, you will see the number of entries that match it on a button on the bottom right. Press that button to be taken to those matches.

When you back up MyQualia data to Google Drive, it is stored in a specialized section designated for app data, rather than in your visible file structure. Google Drive allocates a unique space for each app, including MyQualia, where the backup resides invisibly to both the user and other applications.

To view the size of the MyQualia backup, navigate to Google Drive on desktop, then go to Settings and select Manage Apps. There, you will find MyQualia listed along with the amount of storage it is using. If you find the backup size too large, you have the option to delete the app data. However, exercise caution with this action—deleting app data from Google Drive will remove all your existing cloud backups, leaving you only with the local data stored on your device.

This ‘Application Data folder’ is specifically accessible only by the app it belongs to. Its contents are not visible to users or any other apps, ensuring the privacy and security of your data.

Go to iPhone Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > MyQualia and tap Delete Data. However, exercise caution with this action—deleting app data from iCloud will remove all your existing cloud backups, leaving you only with the local data stored on your device.

If you have a Samsung phone, you can install a second instance of the MyQualia app in the Secure Folder.

No, MyQualia does not require an account for use, which means we do not collect, store, or have access to your personal entries and data. All of your data is stored locally on your device, and all computations are done there as well. If you choose to back up your data, you can do so to Google Drive on Android devices or to Apple iCloud on iOS devices; however, these backups are saved within your personal cloud storage area, which we cannot access.
