MyQualia Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 August 2026

MyQualia asks you to write down what was in your head at random moments, then talks those notes over with Russ, our AI interviewer. That makes what you give it quite personal, so here is plainly what happens to it.

MyQualia is built and run by The Giant's Shoulder team. Any questions, or anything you want done with your data, email evan@thegiantsshoulder.com.

The three things worth knowing

  1. What you write goes to Russ, our AI interviewer. He runs on Anthropic's Claude.
  2. Once it has been anonymised, it may be used as training data to better understand inner experience.
  3. Delete your account and your name comes off what you wrote. The writing stays.

If any of that does not sit right with you, please do not use the app.

What we collect

Your email address, so you can sign in.

What you write at each beep, your conversations with Russ, and the categories an AI model works out from them.

Your beep settings and your device's timezone and language, so beeps arrive at sensible local times.

That is it. There is no tracking, no analytics, no ads, and nothing is sold. We do not touch your location, contacts, photos, microphone or health data. Beeps are scheduled on your own phone, so nothing is pushed to you from a server.

Where it goes

Four companies handle it, purely so the app works: Supabase (the database and your sign-in code), Vercel (the backend), Anthropic (the AI that interviews you and sorts your entries), and Expo (app builds and updates).

They are US companies, so your data is processed outside the UK and the EEA.

What we do with it beyond running the app

Once it is anonymised, we use it to make Russ a better interviewer, and we may use it to train AI models on how people describe their inner experience.

Anonymised means your email and account ID are not attached to it. But free text is never perfectly anonymous, so please do not write names, addresses or other identifying details into your beeps.

How long we keep it

Your account details stick around while your account does.

Entries and interviews are kept indefinitely, because the whole point of the collection is that it builds up over time.

Deleting your account and data

In the app, go to Settings then Delete account. You can also email evan@thegiantsshoulder.com from the address you signed up with and ask us to do it.

We will remove your email address, your account and your ability to sign in, and anonymise what you wrote rather than delete it.

If you would rather we deleted everything you have written as well, there is a checkbox on that screen, or say so in the email.

Your account stops working the moment you ask. We then hold the request for 30 days before carrying it out, so that a deletion you did not mean is not final. If you change your mind inside those 30 days, email us and we will put it back. After that it is done and cannot be undone.

Your choices

Email evan@thegiantsshoulder.com and we will send you a copy of your data, fix anything wrong, delete your account, or stop using your entries for research and training. No form, no process, just ask.

If you are in the UK or the EEA and we handle it badly, you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.

A few last things

MyQualia is for adults, so please do not use it if you are under 18.

It is not therapy or a medical device, and Russ is not a clinician. If you are struggling with your mental health, please talk to a doctor.

This is beta software. It may change, break, or lose data.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top and show you the new version.
